Let’s dive into the latest AP Poll after Week 1 of the college football season.

Georgia Kirby Smart

Georgia went out and beat Clemson in Week 1. At one point the game was close with both defenses in action.

But then Georgia’s offense woke up and the Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 34-3. At that point, they made them look ridiculous, and Kirby Smart’s team is the best in the country.

Ohio State rolled over Akron over the weekend, proving once again that this team is a true wide receiver factory. True freshman Jeremiah Smith shone with two touchdowns.

Will Howard was solid at quarterback and the defense was dominant. A good first week for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes as the best team in the Big Ten according to this poll.

Quinn Ewers

The Longhorns came into the game fired up and were able to use both Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning at quarterback. Despite this, Ewers did a great job and the team hasn’t missed a beat since last year.

Texas was considered a contender in the SEC in 2024. Well, after a week, the Longhorns definitely look like one. So a matchup with Georgia is very tempting, especially for polling purposes!

Kalen DeBoer Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama and Kalen DeBoer were a match made in heaven, at least in Week 1. All in all, it was a great debut for the Crimson Tide’s new head coach.

It will be interesting to see how Jalen Milroe develops in this new offense. So far, things are going well for this College Football Playoff contender and highly ranked player in the poll.

Notre Dame probably made the biggest statement of the weekend. At least one of them was, that much is certain: the away win against Texas A&M.

Year three could be crucial for Marcus Freeman, and while Notre Dame can’t finish higher than No. 5 in the CFP rankings, the sky’s the limit for this team. The Fighting Irish seem to have great team chemistry, as this poll shows.

Ole Miss played one half and that was pretty much all there was to see. Jaxson Dart scored six touchdowns in 30 minutes, so the Heisman campaign has officially begun!

Tre Harris is a true wide receiver who could also be one of the best in the conference. There’s not much to take from a 76-0 win over Furman, but Ole Miss isn’t messing around.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon didn’t look good, make no mistake about that, but an average team might have lost its bearings and lost to an up-and-coming Idaho team.

Overall, Dan Lanning, Dillon Gabriel and the team will do well, as the poll suggests. It’s been a week. But it was certainly an exciting result to analyze as the Ducks contend with the expectation of potentially winning the Big Ten and a national title.

Penn State heard a lot about rival West Virginia over the weekend. But hey, in the end, the better team won.

That’s not to say WVU won’t be good this season, but the Nittany Lions may have figured it out, at least after a week. Drew Allar looked good, the running game was strong, and the defense was stifling. Maybe this year is it?

The Tigers are off to a great start, especially given the offseason hype. Brady Cook and Luther Burden could be dangerous all season long.

The real question now is whether Mizzou can maintain this performance throughout the season and repeat last season’s success. The rankings say that early on.

Michigan wasn’t as dominant as it was in 2023, but the Wolverines got the win. Fresno State made it close, but Will Johnson’s pick-six sealed the deal.

Former walk-on Davis Warren started at quarterback and could be the solution, but Sherrone Moore and Co. will need to solidify the spot as Texas comes to town.
