Storm vs Sun Predictions, Tips & Odds – 9-3

Storm vs Sun Predictions, Tips & Odds – 9-3

Both the Storm and Sun have more than enough firepower to succeed on offense, and despite Connecticut’s strong defense, it won’t be enough to bring down the overall performance. Read below to see why we’re targeting the over with our WNBA picks.

The Seattle Storm and the Connecticut Sun are both looking to make a splash in this year’s WNBA playoffs – and will meet for the second time in three days tonight at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Connecticut is coming off a 93-86 win on Sunday — led by 26 points from Brionna Jones — and will once again be the favorite against a Seattle team that has lost three of its last four games. My predictions for Storm vs. Sun are that both teams will once again be strong on offense.

My WNBA picks take a closer look at this September 3 showdown below.

My analysis

There’s a lot of good to be seen in these two offensive lines – and it’s not just an overreaction to the 179 points they scored over the weekend in a game that featured just seven three-point shots.

The Connecticut Sun hit 54% of their shots on Sunday, scoring 90+ points in each of their two consecutive games, and have now scored at least 80 points in four of their last five games.

I’m expecting more of the same from Connecticut here, with a balanced attack that should give the Seattle Storm a lot of trouble – and that pushes me toward the over.

The Storm allowed 98 points against the New York Liberty on Friday and were unable to stop 29 of the Sun’s 50 three-pointers on Sunday. That promises trouble as they now face a strong Connecticut team and have the luxury of using Marina Mabrey as a substitute.

But the visitors will not shy away from a shootout either. With Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike, Seattle has proven basket hunters who will put the WNBA’s stingiest defense under pressure. Loyd scored 27 points on 8 of 16 shots in Sunday’s game, and the Storm scored 86 points, although their second unit (six points) brought almost nothing.

There’s enough firepower to pull off a big total, and the over has won in four of the last six meetings between these teams. It’s also been a winning ticket in the Storm’s last three games, and I’m counting on the offense to have the upper hand tonight

Storm vs. Sun – Accumulator bet on the same game (SGP)

Over 159.5

Alyssa Thomas Over 6.5 Assists

Skylar Diggins-Smith Over 6.5 assists

Alyssa Thomas rebounded from a shock injury in Saturday’s game against the Washington Mystics to dish out eight assists on Sunday – and has recorded more than seven assists in five of her last eight games.

Connecticut was cautious with her minutes last time out, but I expect her workload to be back at 30. Surrounded by DeWanna Bonner, Brionna Jones, DiJonai Carrington and Marina Mabray, Thomas is ready for another big game as the Sun’s best playmaker — and her 7.6 assists per game are behind only Caitlin Clark’s.

Skylar Diggins-Smith isn’t far off that pace at 6.5 assists per game in 2024, and I boost the SGP odds by factoring in the over at her 6.5-dimes prop.

She finished with six assists on Sunday, but had seven or more in her three previous appearances. Like Thomas, she’s the straw that broke the camel’s back, and this matchup is built on her keeping Seattle’s offense on track. It’s also a pick that fits well with my best bet for a fast-paced, high-scoring matchup.

Storm solar spread and over/under analysis

  • The Storm are coming off a difficult ATS stretch, scoring in just one of their last 11 games, so it’s no surprise that the visitors are underdogs, trailing by 3.5 points.
  • The Sun are 5-1 ATS in their last six meetings with Western Conference opponents, but 3-9 in their last 12 games following a SU win.
  • The hosts also have a record of 2-6 ATS in their last eight games on home soil.
  • While the under record in Connecticut’s last six Tuesday games is 5-1, the over record in their last seven meetings at Mohegan Sun Arena is 5-2.

Storm vs. Sun Trend

Due to defensive issues, the Storm are on a 0-7 ATS road streak. Find more WNBA betting trends for Storm vs. Sun here.
