EL DORADO COUNTY – Mandatory evacuations remain in effect as the Crozier Fire in El Dorado County threatens more than 1,600 structures, according to Cal Fire.

The fire broke out shortly after 1:20 a.m. on August 8, northwest of Slate Mountain in the Eldorado National Forest.

Cal Fire reports the fire has spread to 1,960 acres and was still 5% contained as of Friday. The Foresthill Fire Protection District said the fire burned nearly 380 acres as of Friday.

The fire is burning in a remote area with dense forest and undergrowth. Crews have reported that high temperatures, wind and low humidity have led to increased fire activity.

The Placerville airport was closed indefinitely to allow emergency crews to battle the fire. Tenants can walk through the gates but cannot fly, drive or taxi on the premises.

The exact cause of the fire is currently being investigated, Cal Fire said.
