After a teenager was allegedly stabbed by an illegal immigrant while attending her brother’s baseball game in Lowell, Indiana, one of the coaches spoke out about the gruesome attack and recalled the moment the assault took place.

Matt Ramian, who was coaching the young girl’s brother’s baseball team at the time, appeared on “Fox & Friends” to talk about what he saw when she was stabbed to death with a butcher knife over the weekend.

“I was just coaching a baseball game, like I usually do,” Ramian told Ainsley Earhardt on Wednesday.

“I’m on third base. I looked, talked to my batter, and out of the corner of my eye I saw this guy come out from behind my dugout. He just jumped on the girl and started pushing her under the bleachers. Then he pulled out a knife that was at least 16 to 20 inches long.”

“It wasn’t even a regular sized pocket knife. He just started waving it around and hit her a couple of times. The stands and the people sitting in front of them were covered in blood,” he continued. “Then he just ran down the sideline and started waving the knife in front of a couple of other people as he ran.”

Ramian said between 10 and 15 fathers and bystanders followed the suspect through the forest, sparking a large-scale manhunt for the suspected attacker.

Dimas Gabriel Yanez, 26, was finally arrested after an hours-long manhunt. Officials said he was an illegal immigrant from Honduras who had already been deported in 2018.

ABC7 Chicago reported he was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with substantial risk of death, assault causing serious injury to a person under 14, assault with a deadly weapon and intimidation.

The sheriff’s office said Yanez “may have been involved in criminal activity throughout the United States since to return to the country illegally.”

Yanez, who allegedly has ties to MS-13, has a criminal history that includes assault, trespassing, drunkenness and attempted burglary in New York, Illinois, Georgia and Ohio, ABC7 Chicago also reported.

Ramian said the young girl who was stabbed in the hand was doing well and had now been discharged from hospital after treatment for her injuries.

“It kind of shocks me to see this as an adult,” Ramian said. “It puts you in a different perspective…You change your views on a lot of things. The girl is doing very well. I mean, she finally got out of the hospital. She…handled it bravely. She actually went to school. Her mother told her she didn’t have to go to school if she didn’t want to, but she wanted to be strong.”

“All the boys were kind of shocked,” he continued. “They’re all strong kids… They’re only 12 years old, but at the same time… things like this happen… It’s something that adults aren’t supposed to see, but… for these kids, it makes it a little bit harder and it makes you a little bit more emotional for them.”

Ramian said the incident has shocked the entire community and surrounding towns as they are still struggling with the aftermath of the attack.

“Lowell is one of those small, close-knit towns,” Ramian said. “They have a big music festival on Labor Day weekend. There are fireworks, parades every day, something different and … it’s one of those towns where everyone knows everyone.”

“So… that something like this happened was shocking,” he continued. “Not just for Lowell, but for all the communities around it.”

Earhardt said the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help the victim’s family with medical bills.
