Ukraine attacks Russian gas platform in the Black Sea

Ukraine attacks Russian gas platform in the Black Sea

Ukraine has struck one of the gas platforms in the Black Sea that Russia used for GPS spoofing, thereby endangering the safety of civilian shipping. This was reported by the spokesman of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk. He noted that a few hours before the attack, the enemy had placed equipment and military personnel on the platform without any civilians present. The platform was not used for its intended purpose.

Previously, a video appeared on the Internet, allegedly showing the moment of the Ukrainian Navy’s attack on the gas platform, but there was no official confirmation at the time. According to the UNIAN news agency, there were reconnaissance equipment and up to 40 Russian servicemen on the platform.

Ukrainian journalist Andriy Tsaplienko reported on his Telegram channel that the attacked platform could be one of the “Sivash” or “Petro Godovanets” drilling rigs, which are under the control of Russian forces. He recalled that “Petro Godovanets” is one of the two “Boyko” drilling rigs that Ukraine bought from Keppel in 2012. Last year, Ukrainian special forces regained control of another platform, “Ukraina”, as well as the domestically produced “Tavrida” platform.

It was also reported that on August 10, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed a Russian KS 701 project speedboat of the “Tuna” type near the settlement of Chornomorske in Crimea. According to GUR, the MAGURA V5 naval drone was used to attack the ship. Three other unidentified watercraft were damaged in the attack. A few days earlier, the Ukrainian Armed Forces sank the Russian submarine “Rostov-on-Don” worth about $300 million in the port of Sevastopol. This submarine was a carrier of Kalibr cruise missiles.
