Woman found dead in baggage machine at O’Hare Airport was suicide: police

Authorities say the death of the woman found dead in the baggage claim area of ​​a Chicago airport is being ruled a suicide.

Virginia Christine Vinton, 57, was found trapped in the baggage conveyor belt at O’Hare International Airport on Thursday.

The coroner determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation by hanging and ruled the incident a suicide, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Vinton reportedly entered the restricted area shortly before 2:30 a.m. wearing flip-flops.

She was found caught in the conveyor belt system for baggage transport, said the fire department.

According to the Associated Press, surveillance footage only showed her entering the area, not how she died.

“She attempted to gain entry at several points,” a source told the Chicago Sun-Times. “They’re not sure what her motive was. She wanted to get to the secure side of the airport.”
