Kylian Mbappé hates failure again after the Euro 2024

France captain Kylian Mbappé said he is back in a state of mind where he “hates failure” as he returns to the national team for the first time since the unsuccessful Euro 2024 campaign.

Despite reaching the semi-finals of the tournament in Germany, Mbappé described his and his team’s campaign as a “failure” after their elimination against Spain.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, the 25-year-old said he had changed his mindset due to experience and the completion of his lengthy free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to Real Madrid this summer.

“I’m in a place I always wanted to be. Last year there was still some distance,” he said.

“All my career I hated losing. Last year I just liked winning – now I’m back in that mindset of hating failure.”

Mbappé also praised his time in the Spanish capital so far.

“I am very happy to be in Madrid. Things are going very well, we have already won a trophy,” he said, referring to the La Liga champions’ victory in the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta.

“Performance-wise, it’s getting better and better, I’ve been scoring goals. I always come (to the French training camp) with the same energy – I want to help the French team as much as I can.”

Mbappé was speaking ahead of France’s UEFA Nations League match against Italy on Friday at the Parc des Princes, PSG’s home stadium.

“How will I be received?” he said when asked what it was like to play in the stadium. “I don’t expect much, I don’t care. The most important thing is to win.”
