Swift and Kelce live their lives, individually and together, on that slab of glass, the subject of scrutiny and endless rumors and conspiracy theories. Earlier this year, a large portion of Americans even believed Swift was involved in a deep state conspiracy to rig the 2024 election. Just recently, earlier this week, photos of a fabricated PR plan circulated online that purported to outline the couple’s relationship step by step leading up to a planned breakup. Kelce’s team issued a statement saying: Vanity Fair that the documents were “completely forged” and that “we have instructed our legal team to initiate proceedings against the persons or companies responsible for the unlawful and damaging forgery of documents.”
It’s a scenario where she’s damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. Critics find ways to criticize Swift no matter what she does. With her jeans statement, is Swift making a statement of her own, pointing to the “It” couples of the past and hoping the public and media have learned their lesson about how to treat them?

Whatever Swift is trying to express with her ensemble, it’s undoubtedly a stark contrast to her past sartorial choices. When the Chiefs last faced the Ravens in the AFC Championship game in January 2024, Swift was at it again, in a soft red sweater, with her wavy hair loose, tousled and sweet, and pounced on Kelce to congratulate and smooch him on the field after the team’s victory. On Thursday, the cozy Swift was nowhere to be seen, photographed walking hand-in-hand with Kelce after the game, shielded by his own sunglasses and beanie, a united front heading out together to face the Dads, Brads and Chads of the world.
