Diondre Overton of Clemson dies at the age of 26

Former Clemson wide receiver Dionne Overton has died at the age of 26, Clemson confirmed in a press release on Saturday. The Greensboro, North Carolina native played for the Tigers for four seasons and helped Clemson to two national titles.

Overton played for the Memphis Showboats of the United Football League.

The 6-foot-5 receiver signed with Clemson before the 2016 season after being rated as a four-star recruit.

He was a big contributor as a freshman, appearing in eight games and catching two passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. Clemson defeated Alabama in the national title game that season.

In 2017, Diondre Overton helped Clemson return to the College Football Playoffs by appearing in all 14 games and catching 14 passes for 178 yards.

Clemson won its second national title under Dabo Swinney in 2018, and Overton had his best year yet this season with 14 catches for 199 yards and three touchdowns.

In his senior year at Clemson, he caught 22 passes for 352 yards and three touchdowns. Overton appeared in all 15 games this season, starting three times and helping the Tigers reach the national title game.

Several former Clemson players took to social media after receiving news of Overton’s death, including former Tigers wide receiver Amari Rodgers.

“Life isn’t fair man!!! Please tell your loved ones you love them because you never know. Long live Dre,” Rodgers posted.
