WSSU Football renews rivalry against NC A&T State University on Saturday night

WINSTON-SALEM, NC.- The Winston-Salem State University football team is reviving an old rivalry with the return of the “Battle of I-40.”

The Rams will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina to face North Carolina A&T State University on September 7. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Truist Stadium.

The Rams won comfortably 34-3 last Saturday, August 31st. Danielle Lee completed 12 of 22 passes and two touchdowns. Justin Fleming recorded his sixth career interception when he returned a pick-six for a 53-yard touchdown. Terrell Chance with seven tackles.

Last time NC A&T vs Wake Forest
The Aggies lost to Wake Forest University 45-13 on Thursday, August 29. Kenji Christian ran for 121 yards and scored a touchdown.

Last time against NC A&T
Fourteen years ago, on September 4, 2010, the Rams beat the Aggies 21-14. Now Hall of Famer Kameron Smith led the Rams to victory with a 65-yard touchdown on the final drive to secure the win.
A look into the past – Review

WSSU/NCAT Connections

  • New Rams offensive coordinator Glenn Reese coached the Aggies two seasons ago, and assistant wide receivers coach Zach Leslie played and graduated from North Carolina A&T. His final season with the Aggies was in 2022.
  • Legendary coach Bill Hayes coached the Rams from 1976 to 1987 and also coached at North Carolina A&T from 1988 to 2002. He participated in the NCAA Division II playoffs with the Rams and competed in NCAA Division I-AA games with NCAT.
  • 11 WSSU players come from the Greensboro area.
