With less than two minutes left in the first half, Rising was seen heading to the locker room.

Rising’s status for the remainder of the game is unknown, as his return is in question.

Utah leads 23-3 at halftime.

Rising was injured when he was pushed into the drinks box on the Baylor sideline. Rising ran to the left and lost the ball just before it went out of bounds. However, as Baylor defenders forced him out of bounds, Rising also fell headfirst into a table full of drinks and coolers.

Freshman quarterback Issac Wilson replaced Rising for the remainder of the half. Wilson is the brother of former BYU quarterback Zach Wilson.

Rising is currently playing his fourth season as quarterback for the Utes after spending seven years in college. The 25-year-old quarterback announced he would be back for his seventh collegiate season after a knee injury cost him his 2023 season. He announced via Twitter/X that he would be back in November 2023.

Rising led the Utes to back-to-back Pac-12 titles in 2021 and 2022, but suffered a knee injury in the Rose Bowl against the Penn State Nittany Lions in January 2023. The Utes lost that game 35-21.

There was hope the Utes would get Rising back sometime in 2023, but in late October he was ruled out for the rest of the year. Although the Utes remained competitive without him, they had lost three of four games at the end of last season and fell out of the AP Top 25 for the first time since 2021.

Utah was one of 10 teams leaving the Pac-12 after the 2023 season. The Utes are now in the Big 12 and will look to establish their dominance there, much like they did in the Pac-12. Without Rising, however, that challenge has become much more complicated.

The Utes started the 2024 season ranked 12th and finished 11th in their game against Baylor in Week 2. Although the Utes should have won that game easily, the concerns now are with Rising and his health.

Utah looks to finish strong and continue its path to the College Football Playoffs.
