Steelers place DL Breiden Fehoko on IR, make numerous roster changes

The Steelers made several roster changes following their season opener. According to NFL insider Aaron Wilson, the team placed veteran defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko on the injured list, released linebacker Easton Gibbs, and signed defensive lineman Marquiss Spencer and linebacker Luquay Washington.

Fehoko suffered an upper body injury in training camp before the Steelers’ season opener. The injury didn’t receive much media attention, but was apparently serious. Because he was placed on the injured list before roster reduction day, Fehoko will not be able to return this season. Fehoko signed with the Steelers as a free agent in 2023 and has never played a regular season game in the black and gold.

Pittsburgh also waived linebacker Easton Gibbs, who spent less than a week with the team. He was signed on August 7.

As replacements, the Steelers signed Marquiss Spencer, a defensive lineman, and Luquay Washington, a linebacker. Both have already trained for the Steelers in recent weeks.

Here’s what we wrote about Spencer:

Spencer was also part of the 2021 draft class, going in the seventh round out of Mississippi State to the Denver Broncos. He was released before the 2022 regular season and most recently spent time with the New York Jets. The 6’4″, 295-pound defensive lineman has appeared in one NFL game, recording one combined tackle.

And Washington:

Washington signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as a UDFA after the 2024 NFL Draft. The 6’3″ and 225-pound defender recorded 32 total tackles and one interception in his final college season at Central Connecticut.

Despite the recent signings, the Steelers still have one spot open on their offseason roster ahead of their second week of preseason play against the Buffalo Bills.
