Who’s ready for a showdown between Florida and the other teams to kick off the 2024 NFL season? The Jacksonville Jaguars travel to the Miami Dolphins today and hope for a good start to the year.

The Jaguars are looking to return to the playoffs after stumbling down the stretch last season, finishing 9-8. Coach Doug Pederson hopes quarterback Trevor Lawrence takes another step toward glory after rushing for 4,000 yards in his second straight season but throwing 14 interceptions to 21 touchdowns. He gets a new group of wide receivers in the form of Gabe Davis and Brian Thomas Jr., a first-round draft pick from LSU who could compete for Rookie of the Year honors.

The Dolphins are coming off an 11-6 season and are in the playoffs for the second consecutive year under coach Mike McDaniel. Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa led the NFL with 4,624 passing yards, receiver Tyreek Hill had a league-best 1,799 receiving yards and running back Raheem Mostert tied for the lead with 21 touchdowns. But for the second year in a row, Miami was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs and had to rebuild its offensive line and defense in the offseason. The Dolphins may be without cornerback Jalen Ramsey, who began his successful career with the Jags.
