An Oregon nurse who disappeared days after returning from her wedding in Hawaii was found dead Saturday following a three-day search after police accused her 27-year-old neighbor of murder.

Melissa Jubane, 32, a cardiac nurse at St. Vincent Hospital in southwest Portland, raised concerns among friends and family when she didn’t show up for her morning shift on Sept. 4, Beaverton police said.

Police received a call requesting them to check on Jubane’s well-being at her apartment. Officers were met by apartment complex staff and began searching for the missing nurse.

Officers found no trace of the newlywed couple in the apartment in Beaverton’s Five Oaks neighborhood.

Jubane married her husband Bryan Llantero on August 24 in Haleʻiwa, O’ahu on the island of Honolulu.

According to KHON, Llantero last heard from his wife around 6 a.m. when she failed to show up at the hospital.

“Efforts by officers and family members to contact Melissa throughout the day were unsuccessful as her phone appeared to be turned off,” the department said in a Facebook post. “Additionally, searches of Melissa’s bank and credit card records did not yield any new information regarding her whereabouts.”

“Her absence without notice was considered unusual and concerning,” the department added.

Jubane and Llantero met in Hawaii and were together for over a decade before getting engaged on Oahu last year.

Since there was no information about Jubane’s whereabouts, she was reported missing shortly after 3 p.m. on September 4.

Police discovered Jubane’s remains on Friday evening, more than two days after conducting a health check and reporting her missing.

“As a result of an extensive investigation, it was determined that one of Melissa’s neighbors, 27-year-old Bryce Johnathan Schubert of Beaverton, was involved in her disappearance,” police said Saturday morning.

Schubert, 27, was arrested Friday night and charged with first-degree murder, according to jail records obtained by The Post.

According to Fox 12, Schubert worked as a nurse at Providence Portland Medical Center from September 2022 to October 2023.

“We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the community members who helped us locate Melissa. Our deepest condolences go out to Melissa’s family, friends and colleagues,” the department wrote.

Jubane, who showed up for work on September 3, would stay in the apartment because it was close to her workplace, her mother-in-law told the outlet.

“We are heartbroken by the news of the passing of our Providence St. Vincent nurse and colleague Melissa Jubane. This is a shock to all of us and her colleagues are mourning her loss. Melissa was an exceptional nurse. We appreciate all the outpouring of condolences from the community. Melissa was a Providence person and we will miss her,” Providence St. Vincent Hospital said.

A colleague of Jubane paid tribute to her on Saturday after her death was announced.

We will all miss you. Rest in peace, you sweet, wonderful human being. May your family find comfort in the weeks and years to come,” Zachary Horton wrote on Facebook. “I am completely devastated by what happened, but I am so relieved that we found you; that the question of where you went has not gone unanswered.”
