The best sprint car racing comes to the Knoxville Nationals in Iowa

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (KFYR) – Brad Sweet is a five-time World of Outlaws points series champion, but he doesn’t race with them anymore. He and his brother-in-law, who happens to be named Kyle Larson, started High Limit Racing. It’s a little like professional golf right now with the PGA and the LIV Tour. They come together and compete in the majors. So you could say the masters of sprint car racing are the Knoxville Nationals.

“It’s a spectacular event. It’s kind of like our Super Bowl. It’s just great to be a part of it, whether you’re racing in High Limit, World of Outlaws or any other series. I think you see a lot of drivers coming from all over the country and even other countries, so if you win the Knoxville Nationals, you’ve certainly beaten the best drivers in the world,” said Sweet.

Sweet has one Knoxville Nationals title. Donny Schatz of North Dakota has won the event 11 times.

“I think Donny Schatz would be in the conversation of greatest of all time. What he’s done in sprint car racing is incredible, historic and he deserves every award and every respect he gets. Like I said, he’s just one of the best of all time and you never know if he might end up being the greatest of all time,” Sweet said.

In the last three years, Kyle Larson has won twice, with Donny Schatz’s last championship in between. We’ll find out who the winner of the 63rd Knoxville Nationals Championship is on Saturday night.
