Tyreek Hill arrested for traffic violation, police warrant review

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was arrested by police outside Hard Rock Stadium on Sunday for a traffic violation, but was released before Miami’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars and is now playing.

A video posted on social media shows Hill lying face down on the ground while police placed his hands behind his back and handcuffed him.

Sources told ESPN’s Jeff Darlington that Hill was stopped for speeding, then got into a verbal altercation with police and was handcuffed.

Darlington sources said Hill was charged with reckless driving.

The traffic accident occurred about a block from the stadium, the team said. Several team members saw the incident and stopped to offer help, the team said.

The Miami-Dade Police Department released a statement from Director Stephanie V. Daniels calling for an “immediate investigation” into the incident.

“We are aware of the recent arrest of Miami Dolphins player Tyreek Hill by officers of the Miami-Dade Police Department,” she said in the statement. “I have requested an immediate review of all the details of the incident, and we are also reviewing available body camera footage. We will provide updates as more information becomes available.”

In an interview with ESPN, Hill’s agent Drew Rosenhaus called the situation “heartbreaking” and “completely unnecessary.” He said he wanted to make sure his client was not mistreated and that it was “unbelievable” to see his client in handcuffs.

“We’ll investigate,” Rosenhaus said. “We’ll keep an eye out for Tyreek.”

He added that he was “just thankful that Tyreek is OK” and thanked the team for helping de-escalate the situation.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter contributed to this report.
