Russia destroys Ukrainian commando team in Kursk, Ukraine damages Russian ships and gas drilling platform

Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Saturday that its army had destroyed a Ukrainian command post and dozens of military vehicles in the border area of the Kursk region, while Ukraine claimed to have damaged several Russian ships and a natural gas drilling platform.

According to the latest combat report from the Ministry of Defense, Russian forces used Iskander tactical missiles to eliminate 15 command personnel of the 22nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Army along the border near Kursk.

The ministry reported that Ukraine had recently lost a total of 1,120 soldiers and 140 pieces of equipment in the Kursk direction, including 22 tanks and 20 armored personnel carriers.

The Russian military continued to repel Ukrainian attempts to enter Russian territory, the ministry said.

The ministry said the Russian air defense system destroyed 26 Ukrainian drones over Kursk and six more over the Yaroslavl region on Friday night.

On Saturday, Ukraine also released footage showing its Su-34 fighter jets dropping aerial bombs at night in the Kursk border area, targeting Ukrainian military personnel and equipment.

According to the Russian state television channel Zvezda, a video showed a drone destroying an American-made mine-resistant anti-ambush vehicle belonging to the Ukrainian army in Kursk.

Meanwhile, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that 72 clashes took place in the frontline areas on Saturday, a third of them in the direction of Pokrovsk.

In addition, according to the General Staff, the Russian army carried out attacks near the border region with Sumy Oblast in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Defense Intelligence Service reported on Saturday that the Ukrainian army destroyed a Russian military patrol boat and damaged three other vessels using unmanned vehicles near the Black Sea village in western Crimea from Friday night to Saturday morning.

On the same day, Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk said on social media that the navy, in cooperation with defense intelligence, had attacked a Russian-controlled natural gas drilling platform in the Black Sea.

He claimed that there were no civilians on board the platform. The platform was not performing its regular function but was being used by Russia to hamper the operation of the temporary grain corridor in the Black Sea.

A reaction from the Russian side to the allegations is still pending.

A wave of protests is sweeping the Yemeni capital Sanaa and other provinces. Thousands are demonstrating in solidarity with the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian population and expressing their support for military action.

Following Israel’s bombing of a port in Al Hudaydah in western Yemen in July, representatives of the Houthi militias have announced a decisive response.

The Houthis announced plans to coordinate a retaliatory strike with the so-called “Axis of Resistance.” The group is currently preparing a collective retaliatory strike in response to the assassinations of Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah military commander Fouad Shukr.

In a weekly speech, Abdulmalik Al-Houthi, the leader of the Houthi group, promised Israel a clear military response. He said the Israeli government knew a response was inevitable and that Tel Aviv was currently preparing for such a response under US supervision and in cooperation with Western and Arab powers. He warned that no pressure or threats would deter the Houthis.

“A decisive response to the Israeli attack on the fuel tanks in the port of Al Hudaydah is inevitable and will come, God willing. The delayed response by the Axis powers is purely tactical in nature, as it is designed to ensure that the response is effective against Israel’s preparations,” he said.

Many also support Hamas’ decision to replace Ismail Haniyeh with Yahya Sinwar as the group’s new political leader. Many protesters say the move undermines Israel’s plan to weaken the Palestinians and the Axis of Resistance.

On Thursday, Al Hodeidah province was hit by five air strikes in different areas. In response, protesters are calling for increased attacks on American and British ships in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the strategically important Bab el-Mandeb Strait.

According to observers, the popular marches in Yemen that have been going on since October 2023 show the extent of solidarity with the Palestinian people. And demonstrators say they will not stop protesting until Israel ends its war against the Gaza Strip.
