It took nearly three quarters, but Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels scored his first NFL touchdown.

In his first career game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Daniels hasn’t done much in the air yet, but the agile quarterback has shown off his legs. After one of his biggest plays of the day with a pass to Brian Robinson Jr., who carried the ball 32 yards to Tampa Bay’s 1-yard line, Daniels kept the ball on a read option to quickly get into the end zone. Daniels then started a dance with receiver Dyami Brown.

The touchdown gave the Buccaneers a 23-14 lead late in the third quarter. With his touchdown, the 2023 Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft completed 10 of 17 passes for 106 yards and 11 runs for 72 yards.

Daniels is also the first quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft to score a touchdown this season. Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, failed to score a touchdown in the Chicago Bears’ win over the Tennessee Titans, and Daniels scored on Sunday before Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix could score.
