Eagles-Packers – Latest injury report: Isaiah Rodgers out

Eagles-Packers – Latest injury report: Isaiah Rodgers out

The Philadelphia Eagles released their third and final official injury report on Thursday ahead of their Week 1 game against the Green Bay Packers on Friday night in São Paulo, Brazil.

The big news is that Isaiah Rodgers is OUT.

Due to a hand injury, Rodgers was only able to train on a limited basis throughout the week.

We wrote that Rodgers was expected to play as an outside cornerback in nickel packages, while first-round rookie Quinyon Mitchell moves from the boundary in base defense to the slot.

It seems like Kelee Ringo is now the outside option with Mitchell moving inside.

Of course, it’s possible that the Eagles could simply use Avonte Maddox as nickelback and leave Mitchell on the outside.

If you’re wondering if Cooper DeJean could play a role, Vic Fangio didn’t make it sound like the rookie is absolutely ready to count on him, especially in contrast to his positive response that Mitchell will play all the snaps.

It will be interesting to see exactly how the coaching staff handles this secondary configuration.

Devin White was already excluded on Wednesday; he did not travel with the team.

By the way, it is not unusual for injured players not to travel with their team. Especially not on an unusually long trip like this. White will benefit more from treatment and rehabilitation at the NovaCare Complex than from a long trip to South America.

We’ve already covered White’s absence in detail. Nakobe Dean and Zack Baun are expected to start. It’s yet to be decided whether Oren Burks, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. and/or Ben VanSumeren will also be included.

Aside from Rodgers and White, the Eagles’ active roster is well-positioned for Week 1. The team will likely announce two temporary additions tomorrow for Friday’s game. At the very least, Nick Gates is expected to be promoted to backup center. We’ll see who else joins him.

GREEN BAY PACKERS INJURY REPORT (THURSDAY)

The Packers considered three players questionable: No. 2 running back MarShawn Lloyd, No. 3 running back Emanuel Wilson and No. 2 tight end Tucker Kraft.

Lloyd is dealing with a lingering hamstring issue, Wilson is battling a hip injury. Josh Jacobs is obviously being used as the Packers’ best running back, but the depth behind him seems questionable.

Kraft was unexpectedly added to the injured list on Wednesday. More information on his possible absence from Acme Packing Company:

The tight end position is also thin. If Kraft is out, the team only has Luke Musgrave and Ben Sims on their 53-man roster at that position. Remember, Green Bay had the third-most tight end lineups in the league last season despite injuries to Musgrave, Kraft and Davis. They want to play multiple tight ends at once and currently only have two who are healthy.

We will find out whether these players can play or not when those who are unavailable are officially announced on Friday evening, 90 minutes before kick-off.

Arron Mosby, the Packers’ third defensive lineman, was ruled out on Wednesday; he did not travel with the team for personal reasons. He might have been out anyway.
