Despite all of this, Chase led the team with six catches for 62 yards. He played in 40 of 48 offensive actions but had just six targets in the entire game. When asked if Sunday’s game plan was affected by his limited time on the practice field, Chase referred the question to his head coach.

“I don’t know,” he said. “You’ll have to ask (Bengals head coach) Zac (Taylor) – I don’t know.”

Zac Taylor nodded when asked after the 10-16 loss whether this was indeed the case.

“We just couldn’t find a good rhythm,” Taylor said of the offensive problems. “I can’t say exactly what it was. I felt like we had a good plan, the guys knew what to do.”

The Bengals had three turnovers on their first three possessions and had a fumble near the goal line on their only attack of the first half. After another turnover on a punt return and a turnover on downs, Cincinnati’s first point of the game didn’t come until late in the third quarter.

With the Bengals defense playing well despite the inefficient offense, there was still a chance to snatch a win in the fourth quarter. Trailing by six points, Joe Burrowand Co. launched a potentially game-winning drive from their own 30-yard line with just over three minutes left to play.

After two incomplete passes – neither of which were intended for Chase – and a short pass to running back Zack Moss, it was three-and-out, and Cincinnati never saw the ball again after allowing their defense to recover the ball on all three remaining timeouts.

When asked what was most frustrating about the loss, Chase pointed to his last drive, but the wide receiver is looking forward to making up for Sunday’s disappointment next week when the Bengals face the 1-0 Kansas City Chiefs on the road.

“We’re professionals,” Chase said. “We have to forget about this and move on to next week.”
