Suspect: Cedarwood Road
A local resident reported on July 29 that someone had hacked his Facebook page and then posted a fake truck with a trailer hitch and an alleged sale.
He explained to police that he did not own a truck or trailer and asked for special attention and extra patrols when people showed up at his home interested in purchasing them.
Car theft (recovered), theft of a firearm: Ginger Wren Road
A resident reported that in the early hours of July 31, someone stole an Audi Q5 that was parked unlocked on his property with the keys inside – as well as a Smith & Wesson firearm.
The car was found later that day in Cleveland, but the gun was missing.
Theft from vehicles, various locations:
Two possibly related thefts occurred in the area in the early morning hours of July 31. Residents of Belcourt Road and Brainard Road reported that someone had stolen garage door openers from their unlocked cars that were parked overnight on their respective properties.
Both were advised to change the codes of their systems as the investigation continued.
Another resident on Lawton Lane reported on August 1 that someone had also searched his car the day before and apparently only stolen a health insurance card.
Car theft (recovered): Addison Court
A 53-year-old Cleveland man reported that his Chevrolet Silverado was stolen from his parking space in The Luxe apartment complex sometime between July 28 and August 1.
He said he left the truck at a friend’s house and assumed he still had the only set of keys. The truck was later found in Cleveland on August 1 and the owner told police he did not want to do any forensic testing, such as fingerprints and DNA evidence.
Theft: Brainard Road
A resident reported around 2:00 p.m. on July 30 that a package delivered to his home containing a Phone 15 valued at $1,600 was stolen from the porch.
Police have obtained surveillance video that provides a good description of the package thieves’ car, while the investigation is ongoing.
Speeding, driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to maintain marked lanes: Brainard Circle
At 3 a.m. on July 27, a patrol officer was pursuing a Mercedes-Benz traveling at high speed and saw the SUV drive over the curb onto the lawn, suffering a flat tire.
The driver reportedly showed clear signs of impairment and refused a breathalyzer test. Police also found an opened bottle of Grey Goose Vodka and unknown pills in a bottle labeled for someone else.
He was arrested and taken to Beachwood Jail.
Suspicion: Forest trip
A patrol officer found a critically injured 20-year-old Cleveland Heights man in distress in a tree-lined field around 10 p.m. on July 25. Police believe the attack occurred outside of the city, possibly in Geauga County. The information has been passed on to law enforcement there.
The man was taken to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment of facial and body injuries. He did not want any further police action. Paramedics arriving at the scene suspected the victim was under the influence of something.
According to police, the victim may have ended up on Forest Drive because he knows someone there.
Shoplifting: Pinetree Road
Heinen’s management reported on August 8 that an employee had purchased $25 worth of groceries nine days earlier and placed them in a cooler in the front of the store.
When they checked again, it turned out that the employee’s food had been stolen.
Traffic stop, arrest warrant: Chagrin Boulevard
A patrol officer stopped a car traveling 53 miles per hour in a 35-mile zone at 10 p.m. on July 31 and found that the driver, a 27-year-old Garfield Heights woman, had an outstanding Lyndhurst Police Department warrant for her arrest.
A short time later she was handed over to the local officials.
