Lions’ Jameson Williams destroys Rams CB with long touchdown in Week 1

Lions’ Jameson Williams destroys Rams CB with long touchdown in Week 1

The Detroit Lions need wide receiver Jameson Williams, a 2022 first-round pick, to step in after Josh Reynolds leaves in 2024, as the team lacks reliable depth at the position. So far, the Alabama product is living up to expectations.

Williams started his night with a 13-yard run and a 36-yard pass reception from quarterback Jared Goff, but he really made his mark when he completely ran over Rams cornerback Tre’Davious White for a long touchdown.

The play came in the third quarter with the Lions leading 10-3. Williams rushed past White on the sideline and Goff threw him a perfect deep ball that completed the long 52-yard touchdown play.

The 52-yard catch was the second-longest of his career and the score was just his fourth since entering the league in 2022. Williams also set a personal record for receiving yards in a single game, which previously stood at 69.

All signs pointed to Williams having a breakout season. After all, he had a strong offseason and showed signs of progress, and this was the first season of his career where he had a full offseason and a normal start to the regular season.

There is still a long way to go, but Williams could not have made a better start than on Sunday evening.
