Nicole Kidman revealed that she asked about her friend Naomi Watts‘ Permission to play the main role as Liev Schreiber‘s wife in The perfect couple.

Kidman, 57, and Watts, 55, have been friends for more than 30 years, with Watts dating Schreiber, 56, between 2005 and 2016.

During an interview with Weekly entertainment Kidman and Schreiber revealed in an announcement shared on the network’s Instagram account on Saturday, September 7, that Kidman consulted with Watts before signing on to star as Schreiber’s on-screen wife in the new Netflix miniseries.

Schreiber began the conversation by saying he had “heard a story” in which Kidman “first asked Naomi if it was OK” to have a romantic relationship with him on the show, to which Kidman replied, “Of course!”

Kidman’s honest answer received nothing but praise from the Headlights Actor. “Isn’t that incredible?” he said to the interviewer. “They are that close.”

The on-screen duo play Greer and Tag Winbury, a seemingly perfect, extremely wealthy couple who become embroiled in a murder mystery while one of their children prepares for his wedding in Nantucket, Massachusetts.

During the interview, Kidman said she had to “chase” Schreiber to get the role alongside her.

“I had to beg him to marry me,” said Kidman, who has been with the Keith Urban since 2006 and has two daughters with the singer, Sunday Rose, 16, and Faith Margaret, 13, he told the interviewer before turning to Schreiber himself. “You’re a little hard to get a hold of. You had to chase after you.”

Schreiber, who has two children with Watts, Sasha (17) and Kai (15), has maintained a committed and supportive co-parenting arrangement over the years.

The actor, who married Taylor Neisen in July 2023 and has one-year-old daughter Hazel with her, was last seen spending time with Watts and Sasha, according to a series of family selfies Watts posted on Instagram on June 22.

“We always check in, we’re best friends,” Watts told the outlet. “That was very nice of her.”
