iPhones always come with the best camera technology available, allowing them to capture the kind of images you’d normally expect from full-size mirrorless cameras. Various rumors have been circulating for months about what photography features we might see on the iPhone 16 range, but there are a few that particularly stand out.

One of them is the heavily rumored addition of a new dedicated camera button on the outer edge of the phone. This button would be specifically geared towards photography, as it offers multiple levels of pressure allowing for a half-press to focus like you would on regular cameras. Some rumors also suggest that it will detect swipes, so you might be able to swipe on the button to quickly zoom in or change other settings.

In addition to the new button, early sources have hinted that the Pro models will get larger camera sensors for the main camera. I’m excited because larger image sensors allow for better dynamic range and overall better image quality. That’s why the Xiaomi 14 Ultra can take stunning photos with its huge 1-inch image sensor.

While there are numerous other rumors about the camera, one of the most common is that 5x optical zoom will be available on both the standard Pro and Pro Max models. Currently, if you want the big zoom (which I do as a photographer), you’ll have to opt for the larger, more expensive phone. If this rumor is true, it means you can opt for the smaller, more pocket-friendly iPhone 16 Pro without sacrificing camera performance.
