Summer time 2024: When will the time change again?

In many states in the USA, the time changes twice a year. In the spring, the clocks are set forward one hour to begin daylight saving time, and in the fall, the clocks are set back one hour to end it.

For early risers, this means an extra hour of rest before the alarm goes off, but for many employees, the sun sets in the evening before they even leave the office.

Daylight saving time is defined as the period between spring and fall when clocks in most parts of the country are set one hour ahead of standard time. By federal law, it always begins on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November.

The practice of changing the clocks began in the United States in 1918 during World War I as a way to conserve fuel. Proponents believed that by changing the clocks by one hour, the country could give some of the electricity generated by coal-fired power plants to the military instead of using it for home electricity for an hour. This practice was repeated during World War II.

When will the time change this fall?

Daylight saving time 2024 began on March 10, 2024, when the clocks went back from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m. It will last until early Sunday, November 3, 2024, when 2 a.m. becomes 1 a.m.

The list of states and territories that will not change their clocks on November 3 includes:
