Selena Gomez returned to her Disney Channel roots in a new trailer for the upcoming series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

The sequel series continues to follow the Russo family and focuses on the star of the original series David Henrie as he tries to find his way in a world where magic exists in secret.
Gomez guest stars in the first episode of the series and drops the new series’ protagonist, a young sorceress named Billie, off with her brother in the hope that he can protect and train her. Billie, played by newcomer Janice LeAnn Browndisrupts the family dynamic as Henrie’s Justin has decided to raise his children without any knowledge of the magical world.
“When Justin’s sister Alex (Gomez) brings Billie home for help, Justin realizes he must brush up on his magical skills to mentor the sorceress-in-training while also managing his everyday duties – and securing the future of the wizarding world,” the official synopsis states.
Gomez and Henrie are both executive producers on the new series. In the clip, the two walk through the set of the new series and hug each other, while Gomez says in a voiceover: “This is where it all started. We are home.”
In a clip from the pilot episode, Gomez explains that Billie is just like her character Alex.
“Billie is rebellious and stubborn, sarcastic,” Alex tells her brother, which prompts him to quip, “Sounds like someone I know.”
The original wizard ran for four seasons on Disney Channel before ending in 2012. Henrie told exclusively We weekly In June, it felt like no time had passed at all during the mini-reunion with Gomez in the pilot episode.
“It was fantastic. We didn’t want it to end. It was great,” he said. “She’s so good. She has such a quick mind that has only gotten stronger.”
Henrie added that fans of the original series will enjoy the new series.
“We have a couple of scenes that I think will take the breath away from the original fans of the original series. They’re really touching and really well done, so I’m excited for you to see them,” he said.
Henrie also took the time to praise his new young co-stars, saying they helped maintain the playful spirit of the original series.
“This new cast is really, really talented. My goal is to restore the heart of the original show so everyone can watch it and say, ‘This is wizard. That feels like the themes, the values, the world, the comedy. That is wizard‘,” he said.
