NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson apologizes for criticism of Tom Brady on the show

Rookie commentator and arguably the greatest NFL player of all time, Tom Brady, didn’t show enough enthusiasm for boisterous NFL RedZone host Scott Hanson as Dallas Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey lined up for a 71-yard field goal attempt just before halftime against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.

Hanson criticized Brady for his lack of enthusiasm over the potential field goal attempt on Sunday. On Monday, he walked back his remarks and apologized to X for an “unfair and reckless” shot at Brady.

Hanson interrupted the RedZone broadcast shortly after Brady and Fox’s Kevin Burkhardt went over the scenario of a possible field goal before the Browns called a timeout. The Cowboys pulled Aubrey off the field after the timeout and Dallas punted instead.

“Oh come on! Brady needs to have more fun in the locker room,” Hanson said.

The athleteAndrew Marchand wrote that Brady “sounded like a rookie from the start on Sunday. His syntax was stilted. His interesting thoughts were limited. It was a bit awkward.” But he added, “Brady eventually calmed down a bit and showed flashes of ability.”

The athleteRichard Deitsch also wrote, “On Sunday, Brady seemed like someone trying to learn the craft in real time. That’s not a criticism. It’s just the reality. He first spoke on the air at 4:23 p.m. ET with the usual set piece and was very deliberate in the first quarter. Everything felt a little slow, he and Burkhardt still finding a conversational rhythm.

“Brady got more and more comfortable as the broadcast went on and I expect that to continue as the season progresses. If you really want me to grade him, I’d give him 2 1/4 out of four. Fox will get that for his first game of the regular season.”

Brady, Burkhardt and Fox’s No. 1 will be on the phone when the New Orleans Saints visit the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday.
