The Weeknd announces release date of new single “Dancing in the Flames”

Following the announcement of his new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” The Weeknd plans to release the first single from the project, “Dancing in the Flames,” this Friday.

The Weeknd premiered the song last Saturday at his “One Night Only” performance in São Paulo, Brazil. “Dancing in the Flames” is accompanied by a music video shot entirely with Apple’s newly announced iPhone 16 Pro. Directed by Anton Tammi along with cinematographer Erik Henrikkson.

A behind-the-scenes clip unveiled today during Apple’s It’s Glowtime event shows how Tammi shot the music video on the new device and talks about the ability to shoot in 4K 120fps in Dolby Vision, as well as the post-production capabilities.

“With the iPhone 16 Pro, the line between what is considered a ‘professional camera’ and what isn’t is blurred. And I think that’s going to really help young filmmakers,” says Henrikkson. “I was very impressed with how the iPhone 16 was able to capture the strong highlights and the deep blacks, because we were shooting with very bright HDMI backlights in the rain, and that was something I was worried about. ‘How is the iPhone going to capture those lights, how is the contrast going to be handled, how is that going to look on The Weeknd’s face?’ And when I saw the results, I was honestly blown away.”

Last week, The Weeknd announced “Hurry Up Tomorrow” as the third and final installment in his trilogy that began with “After Hours” and continued with “Dawn FM.” On Saturday, he took the stage at MorumBIS Stadium in São Paulo, introducing new songs and bringing along special guests Anitta and Playboi Carti.

As part of this concert, the singer collaborated with the United Nations World Food Programme to donate the proceeds from the show to the XO Humanitarian Fund to combat the global hunger crisis. One dollar of the local equivalent of each ticket went to this cause.

Next month he travels to Australia for the final leg of his “After Hours” tour.
