SCHOOL CLOSURES announced due to Tropical Storm Francine

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana (WAFB) – Some school districts have announced that classes for students will be canceled on Wednesday, Sept. 11 as Tropical Storm Francine makes landfall in Baton Rouge and the surrounding area.

The following schools have made announcements:

UNIVERSITIES

  • Southern University’s Baton Rouge campuses will close at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Normal operations are expected to resume at noon on Thursday, Sept. 12. The closure will impact all classes, operations and activities at Southern University and A&M College, Southern University Law Center and Southern University AgCenter. Students living in on-campus residence halls are encouraged to shelter in place or go home when it is safe to do so.

Parish of Ascension

  • Public schools and after-school care in Ascension are closed on Wednesday, September 11 And Thursday, September 12Extracurricular activities are cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

Parish of the Assumption of Mary

  • Assumption Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 10, Wednesday, September 11, And Thursday, September 12.

Parish of Iberville

  • The public schools and offices of the municipality of Iberville are closed on Wednesday, September 11And Thursday, September 12. Schools and offices close on Tuesday, September 10. Click here to view the early release schedule.

Parish of St. Mary

  • St. Mary Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 10And Wednesday, September 11.

Parish of St. Jakob

  • St. James Parish public schools and offices will be closed on Wednesday, September 11, And Thursday, September 12All extracurricular activities will be cancelled on Tuesday, September 10.

East Baton Rouge Parish

  • The East Baton Rouge Parish school system said it is closely monitoring Tropical Storm Francine and will keep the community updated.
