Release date and video preview of “Dancing in the Flames” by The Weeknd

The rollout for The Weeknd’s Hurry up tomorrow Work on the album is in full swing, as he announced on Monday (September 9) that the first single, “Dancing in the Flames,” will be released on Friday.

The Weeknd performed “Dancing in the Flames” and other new Hurry up tomorrow tracks for the first time at his special one-night-only show in São Paulo, Brazil, last weekend. The Weeknd also debuted collaborations with BillboardThe current cover star of Playboi Carti, who won the Artist of the Year Award at the Billboard‘s 2024 R&B Hip-Hop Power Players event last week and Brazilian star Anitta. Hurry up tomorrow is the third and final part of The Weeknd’s latest After work And Radio and television stations Trilogy.

The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) also gave a preview of the music video, which also comes out this Friday, in an Apple commercial for the iPhone 16 Pro.

“I can’t wait to see your face/ Crash when we change lanes,” he sings while blissfully driving a red convertible. Cinematographer Erik Henrikkson explains how filming in 4K at 120 fps (frames per second) was “really groundbreaking” for “getting epic slow-motion shots,” as shown by the superstar running through the rain in slow motion, stepping his feet in puddles one by one. “We felt like we didn’t have to take any risks. We just pushed it as far as we normally do,” Henrikkson continues. And they certainly didn’t play it safe, because in one of the shots, The Weeknd appears to be thrown from the car as glass shatters everywhere.

The video is directed by Anton Tammi, who also directed the iconic Music videos for his After work era, including his Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits “Blinding Lights” and “Heartless.”
