A bar and restaurant focusing on women’s sports opens in Omaha

OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT) – Women’s sports are experiencing significant growth.

Nebraska is nothing new in this regard. Last August, the University of Nebraska set the world record for the most attended women’s sporting event of all time: Volleyball Day in Lincoln.

Two former Omaha athletes are opening the state’s first women’s sports bar to put women’s sports in the spotlight.

It will be called “SET The Bar” and will be located in the Benson District at the corner of 62nd and Maple Street.

The owners hope to put women’s sports in the spotlight on the big screen with sound, something that is sometimes difficult to get in a regular bar.

“If you want to watch major games at home, you need 12 different apps and subscriptions to even access those games,” said co-founder Amy Hannesson. “We’re going to enable all of that here at SET The Bar.”

Their design includes one or two large televisions behind the bar and additional, smaller televisions throughout the restaurant.

SET The Bar is one of only a handful of sports bars in the country that cater exclusively to women, with some showing exclusively women’s sports. Hannesson says that while they will put women front and centre on screen, they will also broadcast popular men’s sporting events.

“It’s also about supporting and building up female athletes, and it’s not just for women,” Hannesson said.
