THE WOODLANDS, Texas (KTRK) — Surveillance cameras captured the moment a stolen car slammed into a gun store early Wednesday morning, clearing the way for five burglars to run into the store and ransack it. The thieves, however, were unable to make much of the store because all of the guns were locked away.

Surveillance video shows a red Hyundai Sonata backing up and crashing into the front entrance of ESAD Arms at around 3:45 a.m. The burglars storm into the building and crawl under the damaged folding gate.

They wore ski masks, gloves and backpacks. One appeared to be holding a gun. The burglars looked around inside but could not find any weapons on the walls or in the glass cases.

“We can’t stop people from stealing things. But the best thing we can do is slow them down,” said owner Bryan Buccini, who spoke only to ABC13. “Every night we put away all of our serialized items, firearms, anything sensitive or valuable and lock them in safes and cages.”

Buccini said the burglars left his store after just a minute and a half. He told ABC13 this is the first time in the 10 years of their business that they have experienced a robbery. He hopes this incident serves as a reminder to anyone who deals with guns of the importance of locking up guns.

“Every gun owner, especially a gun store, has a huge responsibility to make sure guns get into the right hands and stay in the right hands. That’s one of the things we want to make clear today. We’re thankful that there are no guns walking around and no one was hurt,” Buccini said.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said investigators have located the stolen car but are still working to identify and locate the suspects.

The gun shop reopened at 10 a.m. and is currently rapidly carrying out repairs to the facade.

“It’s disheartening because we’ve put in a lot of work to grow the business and make it successful,” Buccini said. “But that’s the price of doing business. We have to stay open. We have to be resilient. We have to clean up this building. We have to get it back to working order.”
