A jewelry store in Chula Vista is looking for thieves who stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry.

“It’s definitely a sobering experience when you go through the day and the routine,” said Anthony Knight, owner of Gold and Diamond Buyers in Chula Vista for 11 years. This is the first time thieves have stolen $30,000 worth of high-quality jewelry.

Knight says they were doing inventory earlier this month when two women walked into the store and asked if they could try on pieces.

We have blurred their faces because police have not identified them as suspects.

Knight says: “They took jewelry without us noticing. When I look away, she puts something on her lap. They threw it to each other, sat on it and then put it in her purse.”

However, Knight says they didn’t realize anything was happening until days later when they noticed pieces were missing. When they pulled up the surveillance videos, they noticed something strange. Pieces of missing footage from the cameras connected to the Wi-Fi.

Knight says: “It’s like you’re in front of the camera for a minute and a half and then you disappear.”

Knight believes the women may have used a device that turned off their Wi-Fi, thereby disabling their cameras.

But luckily, Knight said, they had a rear-view camera connected to a landline, and that’s where they caught the women in the act.

He adds: “They are professional, they are good. They got us.”

And they hope that other companies will learn from their experiences and remain vigilant as police investigate this crime.
