A new natural gas generator for mission-critical 50 Hz applications

Caterpillar has launched the Cat G3520 Fast Response natural gas generator set for 50 Hz applications including hospitals, data centers, shopping malls, schools, government buildings and universities, as well as research and industrial facilities.

According to Cat, the unit is now available from dealers around the world and offers 2.6 MW for emergency power supply and load control. Designed to ISO8528-5 G2 standard, it starts and accepts load from a cold start in 10 seconds and is capable of accepting and recovering from a 100% block load.

It has Caterpillars EMCP 4 control systemwhich controls, protects and monitors motors and generators. The control system Ethernet communication functions facilitate integration into building management systems. Advanced features include a gas control cable, package-mounted radiators and simplified wiring for easier installation.

For improved performance, the Cat G3520 Fast Response generator can be equipped with the Cat Energy Control System (ECS), a new suite of integrated, networked and scalable controllers. Cat ECS enables customers to manage their energy needs from a single generator set to interconnected, multi-site microgrid solutions that optimize multiple power generation sources for resilience, emissions and cost.

Reducing emissions while providing critical energy

“As our customers worldwide seek mission-critical power that can also help them meet their sustainability goals, the Cat G3520 Fast Response generator set offers a powerful natural gas option that helps them reduce their greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional backup solutions,” noted Melissa Busen, vice president of Caterpillar’s Electric Power Division.

With the new version, Cat has now expanded its proven portfolio of natural gas propulsion solutions with fast response capabilities.
