A new place to eat in Cornwall, New York

A new place to eat in Cornwall, New York

In January 2023, I shared the news that one of my favorite places in my hometown of Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York was for sale. I don’t know why, just call it hectic life, but after the winter of 2023, I lost track of whether Paitiner’s ever sold.

Then recently, in a conversation with someone who lives in Cornwall, I learned that the business had been sold but was closed. I was disappointed to hear this news because in my head I thought I could go back there any time.

Painter’s Tavern reopens in Cornwall-on-Hudson, New York, after nearly two years

The person I met told me that the current owners were hoping to reopen soon, so I decided to keep an eye on the news from Cornwall to see when Painter’s would reopen. Today, that paid off, and judging by the comments, I’m not the only person looking forward to going to Painter’s again.

My history with the bar and restaurant goes back to when it was still in its original location, which is now the Storm King Lounge and Fare. The original Painter’s Tavern and even the new one was always where everyone met when we came home. During college holidays, family visits after we moved away from Cornwall and even class reunions, we all always met at Painter’s.

The gentlemen who opened Painter’s Tavern and moved it to the Old Cornwall Inn were ahead of their time. They understood the idea of a boutique motel with a bar and restaurant long before it became fashionable.

The new owners told us they’ve put a lot of heart and soul into reopening the place, so you can bet it’ll be a special experience to come back. Not to mention the menu looks fantastic.

Painter’s menu looks incredibly delicious, so I guess I’ll have to go and enjoy their strip steak and then I’ll definitely add it to our list of steak restaurants.
