A new taco shop in Rockville is helping to curb student lunch debt

A new taco shop in Rockville is helping to curb student lunch debt

A new taco shop in Rockville Town Center is celebrating many firsts, including a new kids’ menu that will help Montgomery County students pay off their lunch debt.

Little Miner Taco has partnered with Montgomery County Public Schools’ Dine With Dignity Foundation to raise money for school meals while families wait for approval to receive free meals through the Free and Reduced-Priced Meals system. Little Miner Taco will donate all proceeds from each kid’s meal to the fund at the new location. The kid’s meals are just $3 and include either a cheese (or chicken) quesadilla and chicken and rice.

Each kid’s meal also comes with a free aguafrescas through Saturday, August 17, as the taco shop attempts to raise $170,000 for the MCPS Educational Foundation during the upcoming school year. A grand opening celebration (August 28) will also feature free birria tacos, aguafrescas and DJ performances for patrons from 1-3 p.m. The first 50 customers will also receive a free birria condiment kit and $5 gift cards.

Little Miner Taco began as a Washington-area food truck that now operates small self-service locations in Brentwood and North Bethesda, Maryland. In July, it opened its largest restaurant yet, with a salsa bar, a brand new logo and a new full-service bar.

The competition for frozen drinks is becoming more and more exciting

Want to try your hand at being a judge on some limited-edition frozen drinks? Electric Cool-Aid is hosting its fourth annual Frozen Cocktail Competition on Sunday, August 18 at 2 p.m., and anyone can enter to try the drinks of some of DC’s favorite bartenders. See who’s competing for a Princess Elsa wand and tiara, tickets to the Repeal Day Ball, and gifts of Flor de Caña rum and Camus cognac (plus bragging rights) on the outdoor bar’s Instagram. As summer draws to a close, Electric Cool Aid also hosts plenty of other events, from movie nights to murder mystery parties.
