REVIEWS

“A Place to Land are two of the most wonderful, kind and talented people and entertainers I have ever met. They have played at my restaurant several times and we always look forward to the next time we see them. They masterfully cover songs of an increasingly disappearing generation and musical culture and it is just so comforting to see two people keeping it alive with such passion. Highly recommended for any event.”

Brian and Rebecca are a musical duo that perform a unique combination of songs that can be described as a hopeful vision of the future with an eye on the past. They live in the woods of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and often perform on the deck of the brewery, entertaining the thousands of visitors who travel to Tahquamenon Falls each year.

Here is a quote from Josh Winkler, The INN, Paradise, MI, about their performances: “A Place to Land are two of the most wonderful, kind and talented people and entertainers I have ever met. They have played at my restaurant several times and we always look forward to the next time we see them. They masterfully cover songs of an increasingly disappearing generation and musical culture and it is just so comforting to see two people keeping them alive with such passion. Highly recommended for any event.”

In addition to performing at the Marquette Farmers Market, they can also be seen at the Goatlocker Saloon, Upper Hand Brewery, Lake Superior Brewery, By George Brewery and Cove Bar. They play traditional acoustic instruments and blend the poetic words of John Prine with the classic songs of the Carter Family. Their repertoire also includes folk songs by Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie, as well as songs by Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard.

During the winter they are busy with HOME Place (History of Music Program) and share their love of music with schools and senior centers.

The HOME PLACE experience lasts one hour and is divided into three sections.

The first section consists of a 15-minute performance with a mix of current and historical folk, country, bluegrass and Americana songs, showcasing the different musical genres using acoustic instruments.

In the second part, the audience can join in for 30 minutes by playing one of the many acoustic instruments provided by HOME PLACE. These instruments include guitars, mandolin, banjo, violin, cigar box guitars, cajon, maracas, shakers and bones.

In the last part, the audience can examine the instruments in peace and talk to the musicians about their experiences.
