Aaron Boone takes a subtle swipe at Red Sox manager Alex Cora

The Red Sox and Yankees quickly settled last weekend’s controversy, but Aaron Boone made sure he had the final say.

Saturday’s Boston-New York game became exciting when Gerrit Cole hit several Red Sox batters. The reigning Cy Young winner also hit Rafael Devers, and there appeared to be an attempt at retaliation when Brayan Bello threw behind Aaron Judge.

Alex Cora and Boone were furious after the game, partly because Cole Devers had intentionally allowed a walk with one out and no runner on base. Cora’s comments about allegedly targeting Judge did not trigger any disciplinary action from MLB, but Boone made sure to publicly lash out at the Red Sox captain after the decision.

“I feel like we’re past this weekend,” Boone told reporters Tuesday, according to Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “We probably won’t play them again this year. We’ve got too many important things going on to really focus on that.”

It sounds like Cora isn’t the only one watching the rankings.

The Red Sox were five games out of the American League’s last wild-card spot after Tuesday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees, on the other hand, climbed four games to the top of the AL East. Boston will have to come up with something if it wants to get revenge on New York again this season.
