Aaron Lewis scores the late winner for Mansfield against Shrewsbury

Aaron Lewis scored the winning goal in the 86th minute and Mansfield came from behind to secure a 2-1 home victory against Shrewsbury.

The struggling Shrews were given the perfect boost by their opening goal in the second minute.

Deji Oshilaja failed to clear Luca Hoole’s low pass, allowing Chelsea loanee Leo Castledine to slot the ball home at the far post.

Castledine could have doubled their lead after eleven minutes following a corner from Funso Ojo, but his free kick from close range went wide.

The Shrews had the better performance in the first half and tested goalkeeper Christy Pym several times from distance.

In the 36th minute, Lee Gregory had the hosts’ first real chance to score with an overhead kick.

But halftime gave Mansfield new momentum and they were able to equalise within four minutes.

Aristote Nsiala slid into a tackle on Gregory in the penalty area, causing the Stags striker to fall and sending Toby Savin into the wrong corner from the penalty spot.

Savin blocked a Stephen Quinn volley with his leg in the 59th minute and Pym prevented a late winner for Shrews by blocking a George Lloyd header from close range.

Instead, the Stags grabbed the ball at the other end when a great through ball from Keanu Baccus Lewis fired the ball into the net.
