Aaron Rodgers believes the Jets are just getting started

After the Jets split two road games to start the season, Aaron Rodgers believes the offense needs to do a lot more from the start. Suffering from inefficiencies against the 49ers and Titans in Weeks 1 and 2, Rodgers has brought out all of his strength now that the Green-Whites face the Patriots on Thursday night.

“It doesn’t really matter how close we are,” he said Tuesday. “What matters is what we did on the field. How close we are is great for coaches because they can coach the whole thing, but it would be a waste of money to keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. We need to change a few things; we need to be a little sharper. We need to start faster. We started really slow the first two weeks, so we need to start faster, get something together in the first 15 minutes and give our defense a chance to play with the lead.”

In their loss to the 49ers, the Jets had 3 three-and-outs and a turnover in their own territory on 5 possessions in the first half. In their win over the Titans, the Jets had 2 three-and-outs and 3 consecutive punts early in the game. The Jets trailed at halftime in both games after being limited to one TD in both games.

Rodgers led the Jets to 6 offensive TDs. New York has scored 3 or more offensive TDs in its first two games for the first time since 2004. He has thrown 3 TD passes, although he was limited to 38 plays in the crushing loss to the 49ers when the Green-Whites had 49 total plays. The offense had a slight uptick in the 24-17 win over the Titans, running 56 plays.

“We need to get our plays into the mid-60s, into the 70s, then we’ll have more opportunities to throw the football,” Rodgers said. “The more opportunities, the more chances on the field, more yards, more points.”
