Aaron Rodgers pushed the Patriots around…and his head coach.
Rodgers and the Jets dominated New England in their home opener at MetLife Stadium on Thursday night with a 24-3 victory.
Rodgers deliberately dismantled the Patriots’ defense, completing 27 of 35 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns.
The win gave the Jets their first 2-1 lead since 2015, but the overwhelming victory was not without a strange scene.
After a touchdown by Breece Hall in the second quarter gave the Jets a 14-0 lead, television cameras showed an awkward exchange between Rodgers and Jets coach Robert Saleh.
When Rodgers came to the sideline, Saleh tried to hug him, but Rodgers put his hands on Saleh’s chest and pushed him lightly while saying something to the coach before walking away, glaring at Saleh.
It’s clear whose side Jets fans would be on in a dispute between the coach and the quarterback, as they broke out into “Aaron Rodgers” chants several times in the second half.
The Jets couldn’t just pull off a nice win without something strange happening.
Aside from the odd interaction between Saleh and Rodgers, it was a good night for the Jets.
MetLife rocked during the pregame introductions, reminiscent of last year’s season opener, and Rodgers was again the last player introduced to thunderous applause.
