OMAHA, Nebraska (AP) — The shooting that a 15-year-old critically injured At an Omaha high school on Tuesday, two boys got into a physical altercation before one shot the other in the stomach with a gun hidden under his hoodie, court documents show.

The 14-year-old suspect appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and was charged as an adult with first-degree aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a weapon and tampering with evidence. He was arrested a few blocks from Northwest High School in Omaha, about a half-hour after the shooting was reported just after noon.

Bail was set at $275,000. If his family could raise the bail, the suspect would have to wear a GPS device.

According to court documents, a surveillance camera at the school showed the victim approaching the suspect before the fight began. The suspect had his right hand in the pocket of his hoodie before firing once and the victim fell to the ground. The video showed the suspect holding the gun before putting it back in his pocket and walking away.

Police found the weapon they believe was used in the shooting during a search of the neighborhood around the high school on Tuesday evening.

The shooting victim remained in stable condition at an Omaha hospital Wednesday, but Officer Michael Pecha said it was not immediately clear whether his injuries were still life-threatening because he still needs further surgeries.

After the shooting, students at Northwest High School ran away before officers locked down the school. After police secured the building, students were released to their families one classroom at a time on Tuesday afternoon. Classes at the school were canceled on Wednesday.

Omaha police said several threats were made on social media against other schools in the area following Tuesday’s shooting. Investigators do not believe those threats were credible, but according to police findings, a 14-year-old student was suspended from class for a long time, an 11-year-old was arrested and a 13-year-old received a citation for their role in communicating threats. More arrests are expected.

The shooting in Omaha followed last week Shooting at a school in Georgia in which two teachers and two students were killed in the town of Winder. Another teacher and eight other students were injured.

The attack was one of dozens of school shootings in the United States in recent years, including particularly deadly ones in Newtown, Connecticut; Parkland, Florida; And Uvalde, Texas.
