While people around the world have been watching the Olympic Games in Paris over the past few weeks, the Republic has been hosting its own “French” competition: the Phoenix French-Fry Face-Off.

First, we asked our readers to submit their favorite Phoenix metropolitan area fries for the poll. Then we narrowed the choices down to the fries with the most recommendations. The people have spoken, and we have a clear winner in the French Fry Face-Off.

We received thousands of votes and over half of them were for Der Wurst Hot Dogs hand-cut French fries with curry ketchup.

Wurst Hot Dogs is located in the Linger Longer Lounge in downtown Phoenix. The two businesses have a “symbiotic” relationship: Wurst runs the kitchen and Linger Longer serves drinks.

“French fries are on 90% of menus across the city… and most of the time they’re an afterthought or just a plate filler,” says Nicholas Hyche, owner of Der Wurst Hot Dogs. “Obviously I give mine more attention, I don’t just open a bag of frozen goods and fry them. It’s nice to get recognition for something that’s usually considered a secondary part of the meal.”

How to visit The Sausage Hot Dogs

The Wurst Hot Dogs is open seven days a week at the Linger Longer Lounge in Phoenix. The fries with curry ketchup are $8.

Hours: Monday to Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Friday from 4:00 p.m. to midnight, Saturday from 3:00 p.m. to midnight and Sunday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
