According to Chicago police, several women entered the hotel around 6:45 a.m. and began placing “unknown items” on the tables where the food was before leaving the area, police said.

Sources told ABC7 that the women placed maggots on the tables.

It was not immediately clear whether any of the delegates had consumed the food, but police said one person was treated and released at the scene.

“I was a few minutes late so I didn’t see what happened, but the people I spoke to said the hotel staff responded extremely quickly,” said Indiana delegate Bryan Lilienkamp.

“They cleaned everything out and brought out new food.”

The hotel released a statement saying, in part, “We can confirm that a group of individuals caused disruption at a DNC-related breakfast event at our hotel this morning. We are grateful for the police’s quick response. The safety and well-being of our guests and employees is our top priority.”

In addition to the CPD, the FBI is assisting in the investigation. No arrests have been made.
