AFC unveils oil and gas policy – Demerara Waves Online News – Guyana

AFC Chairman David Patterson speaks at a public meeting in the Mackenzie car park in Linden.

The Alliance For Change (AFC) announced on Saturday evening that it would unveil its oil and gas policy as it prepares for its campaign for the 2025 general elections.

David Patterson, AFC spokesperson for the hydrocarbon sector, made the announcement at a public meeting in the MacKenzie Market car park in Linden to celebrate the launch of his party’s campaign. “We will be unveiling our oil and gas policy starting Friday next week,” a reference to this being done at the weekly press conference.

He said the policy will initially include transparency to ensure Guyanese have access to information. Other issues to be addressed in the coming weeks include full liability insurance, environmental protection, isolation and feasibility studies.

The AFC Chairman noted that he had noted that the Secretary General of the People’s Progressive Party and Second Vice President of Guyana, Bharrat Jagdeo, had said that the AFC had no policy on anything.

According to Patterson, Guyana earns GY$65 million per hour from oil, but the government has failed to consult the Guyanese people about how the money should be spent.
