After Carmen: Ohio State’s running game shines, defense and special teams deliver mixed results in 49-14 win over Marshall

Four touchdowns of over 40 yards and nine plays of 15 yards or more showed Ohio State’s offensive strength against Marshall.

Ohio State’s running game was the foundation for everything. The Buckeyes tore up the Thundering Herd with 280 yards of groundwork at a rate of nine yards per carry. The superstar running back duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson combined for 249 yards and four touchdowns on just 20 carries.

Otherwise, the defense and special teams performances were mixed. The impact of Tyleik Williams’ absence was felt on the defensive line, as the Buckeyes were no longer as disruptive as they were in the defensive trenches. The Buckeyes also had some issues with pass coverage up the middle and quarterback running, but OSU ultimately held the Herd to 14 points and 264 yards, with 203 of those yards and all 14 points coming in the first half.

Jayden Fielding had an uncharacteristically poor performance on kickoffs for the Buckeyes, kicking three balls out of bounds in a row before being replaced by walk-on Austin Snyder. Brandon Inniss’ botched punt was nullified by an illegal lineup penalty, but he responded with a nice 21-yard return that could have yielded much more had he not slipped.

Eleven Warriors Andy Anders and Dan Hope discuss all that and more on “After Carmen,” our postgame show from Ohio Stadium recapping Ohio State’s 49-14 win over Marshall.
