Alameda County murder suspect arrested at Walmart in Barstow

A man wanted in connection with a fatal shooting in Alameda County was arrested outside a Walmart in Barstow over the weekend, authorities said.

According to Barstow police, police were notified Saturday afternoon that the suspect vehicle linked to the Northern California murder had been spotted by an automatic license plate reader near the Walmart at 301 Montara Road.

The officers soon found the car, but there was no one inside.

“After several minutes, they were able to safely apprehend the suspect, Nicholas Paleveda, a 38-year-old Alameda County resident, as he attempted to leave the area,” police said in a written statement.

Paleveda was arrested and his vehicle was towed as evidence, police added.

Paleveda was arrested on suspicion of murder and turned over to the custody of Alameda County law enforcement, according to San Bernardino County jail records.

According to Dublin Police, the fatal shooting occurred at around 2:20 p.m. on Friday, August 23, at an apartment complex in the 5000 block of Hacienda Drive in Dublin.

Police found the victim, a 37-year-old man, with a gunshot wound to the head, the agency said in a statement. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The motive for the murder and whether the suspect and the victim knew each other are still being investigated, officials said.
