As the Riyadh Season Noche UFC continued to send shockwaves through the MMA world, the man with hands of stone claimed that fight fans would soon see him face off against the heavyweight champion. Through a translator, he said:“We’re both sitting next to each other in the front row and have talked a bit about training together. But I think it’s going to happen now.”

This inspired the interviewer to ask about the schedule of training sessions, wondering if they would take place after UFC 307 to accommodate training for Jones’ fight against Stipe Miocic. Pereira replied“I think so, because his fight is in November. You know, every time we leave a fight, sometimes he needs a week or two to recover from his injuries. But I think I’ll have enough time to go together.”

Before the duo booked their training sessions, they wanted to fight in the Octagon. In May 2024, “Bones” approached X and challenged Pereira. He wanted the UFC to give the LHW champion a chance to avenge all the Brazilian champions he had defeated.

Although Pereira had great respect for the heavyweight champion, he could not turn down such an opportunity. However, other factors stood in the way of the duel.

The fight between ‘Poatan’ and ‘Bones’ will not take place

In an appearance on the MMA Hoje podcast, Pereira revealed his opinion on the duel between him and Jones. Although both fighters seemed ready to show their skills against each other, the MMA promotion had to give it a try.

The light heavyweight champion said“Everyone wanted to see this fight, but there’s not much to say because it doesn’t just depend on us. So I’m just putting myself out there and talking here if it suddenly can’t happen at all. I respect him a lot, he understood what if he said he wanted it too, so. I respect his wishes and if that’s what he wants, that’s OK.”
