On Friday, a passenger plane crashed in the Brazilian state of São Paulo. All 62 people on board were killed, authorities said.

Brazilian airline Voepass said in a statement that the plane had 58 passengers and four crew members on board.

Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva had previously stated during a press conference that there were no survivors of the plane crash and called for a minute’s silence for the victims.

The São Paulo Fire Department said on social media that seven firefighting teams were deployed to help with the aftermath.

They confirmed that the plane flying from Cascavel to São Paulo crashed at 1:25 p.m. local time (6:25 p.m. CET) in the town of Vinhedo, near a highway close to the city center of the state capital.

The Brazilian television station GloboNews showed footage of a plane spiraling downwards as well as images of a large burning area in a residential area, with smoke apparently rising from the fuselage.

Live flight tracking website Flightradar24 posted on X that the plane, reportedly built in 2010, was flying at an altitude of 17,000 feet (about 5,100 meters) immediately before its crash.

There is no information yet about the possible cause of the crash.
