All students safe after Foley High School locked down following ‘incident,’ officials say

UPDATE: Foley High School students will be dismissed at noon. See details below.

FOLEY, Ala. (WALA) – Foley police responded to an “incident” at Foley High School this morning, police said. Officers are on the scene.

Police said the school had been cordoned off. At 10:43 a.m., police said the area had been secured and all students were safe.

Access to the school will only be permitted once the security area has been lifted, police said.

Jessica Webb, principal of Foley High School, sent the following message to parents:

“This morning, Foley High School was placed on lockdown. Foley Police responded along with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Department. The campus has been secured and all students are safe. Please do not attempt to approach campus until we have lifted the perimeter. We will provide more information before noon.”

At 11:36 a.m. the FPD posted the following on Facebook:

“Images are circulating and being shared on social media that are old photos and are not from today’s incident at Foley High School. In fact, some that we saw were not even taken on the Foley High School campus.

“We are currently on campus with the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office. The high school is secured and we are currently working on a reunification plan for you to pick up your student. We should have that information to you within the next 30 minutes.

“Please remember that we and the Baldwin County Board of Education are sending confirmed information. Rumors do not help in this matter and we would appreciate it if you do not join in and support the spread of false information.

“You’ll hear more from us shortly.”

Then Foley High sent this message to parents:

“Parents, at noon we will begin dismissing students from Foley High School. We will dismiss those driving cars first, then those students whose parents are coming to pick them up. Students are welcome to remain on campus. They will be seated in the cafeteria and given the opportunity to study. After school, students who ride the bus will board their bus and head home to their destination.

“If you would like to pick up your child, please come down Cedar Street along the back of the school and follow security personnel around the south side of the cafeteria where you will pick up your child and exit through the east front of the school toward Highway 59.”
